12/7-12/11

Happy Monday!

We have pretty warm weather this week for December!  Maybe if one of my students read this blog and tell me they saw this, I will take them outside for a little bit!!

FOOD  FOOD  FOOD... We are having a food drive here for Bedford families that need help for the holidays.  Please send in a couple items with your child if you are able to do so!  Thank you in advance!

We are also having a toy drive.  I cleaned out my daughter's toybox last night and brought in a huge bag of things.  Your child has the opportunity to save $7 on their yearbook with a gently used toy.  I am keeping this bag of toys in my room in case any of my students still want to buy a yearbook.  The cost will be $38 if they take a toy from my room and use it for a discount.  Checks can be made to Bedford Public Schools!

This week in Math:  We are presenting our recipe projects today, reviewing tomorrow and taking the quiz on Wednesday.  This week is international coding week!  On Thursday and Friday, they will have the opportunity to do some coding online and create their own video games!  It is a really neat thing that I do every year in math.

Reading: They will have a quiz over the story, "Names/Nombres" tomorrow and we will move on to the next story in our ELA book.

Writing: We will continue filling out our interactive notebooks with grammar concepts and also be writing short essays that tie in with our reading.

As always, please email me with any questions or concerns!
Thank you!

November 16-20

Week 2 of quarter 2...

It was so nice to meet many of you at parent/teacher conferences!

Please be sure you are checking HAC regularly so you can keep up with your child's grades and any missing assignments.  A U in the gradebook means your child did not turn in an assignment.

We have our field trip on Friday- weather looks good as of now, just a bit chilly.  Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately, we will be outside for the entire day!  Also, be sure to pack your child's lunch.

In math this week, we will continue with multiplying fractions and begin dividing fractions.  If your child is struggling with this concept, please be aware of 8th hour- it is a great tutoring program for an hour after school that they can get help on homework.  Also, we have a math tutoring center available during homeroom every day!

In Reading and Writing, we will continue in our ELA book.  We will be reading stories, completing grammar activities and writing short autobiographies.

Your child has their new AR goal so they should be reading AT LEAST 30-45 minutes each night to make this goal.

As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns!

Busy week for teachers this week!

Parent/Teacher conferences are Wednesday and Thursday.  Please contact me if you have not signed up!
Our field trip was cancelled on Nov. 6th, that is rescheduled for November 20th.
New quarter starts today!!!

I hope your students have shared our experience we have been having with a 6th grade class in Australia- I joined a group to complete a Global Read Aloud and we have made a connection with a class in Sydney Australia on edmodo!  We have sent videos back and forth introducing ourselves and we are discussing the same book that is being read in both our classrooms! It has been extremely fun to have this opportunity to learn a whole new culture!  Please ask your kids about it!

We will begin working with fractions in math
In reading and writing, we are starting unit 2 in our new ELA books.  Some of the topics covered include:  point of view, making predictions, characterization, figurative language, viewpoints and facts and opinion!

Our 1st quarter was a complete success!  I thoroughly enjoy having your children in class and I look forward to speaking with all of you at conferences!  If you have any concerns for conferences, please email me prior so I am prepared for what you need!

Thank you!
